Hey all,
I found this site while looking for reviews on Ruths Chris- some good threads.
So here are a few of my favorite steaks. (no particular order)
Gallager's- Las Vegas
I had the fillet, Very good- a little firm, but overall very tender.
Busy Friday night, with little attention from the wait staff. I would go back, however there are still to many other places to try in Vegas.
Flemming's - Tampa Fl
I had the Porterhouse, Wife had the NY strip. The Porterhouse was one of the best I have ever had. Amazing. The NY strip my wife had was OK - I have had much better. The overall experience was great, very good wine, and attentive staff. highly recommend the porterhouse.
Roy's - Tampa Fl
I ordered the Filet as I have the 3 other times I have visited. Consistently tender. Always a great experience.. A little noisey in the dinning room.
Pacific Wave - Saint Petersburg, Fl
Trendy little place downtown, I have visited 3 times in the past 2 years. Wife gets various seafood, and I always the filet. Nice red wine reduction on the filet...
Boscom's Chop House - Saint Petersburg, FL
Was treated poorly by the snooty waitstaff, (get over yourself Boscom's) however I ordered the porterhouse and enjoyed it for the most part. Very salty. I have never had such a salted steak, but it was surprisingly good.
Berns Tampa, Fl
Honestly not as good as I was expecting... But still good. My strip was overcooked, but the wine and desert room made up for it! I need to go back and not drink so much, order the filet, and savor it.
I donot recomend Julians- St. Pete Fl. Another snotty waiter ... Anyway the steak was severly overcooked and the place needs a makeover.

Hyde Park in Columbus Ohio is Great! No snooty waitstaff. I get the steak kosar with the lump crab meat on top. They also have very good cheesy potatos. Hmmmm.

My wife and I went to Ruth's Chris last night and it was awesome. By far the best Filet In Town. The overall experience was great. We had reservations for 6:45 and arrived on time into the busy entryway and overcrowded noisy bar area. We were told it would just be a minute. 10 minutes later the hostess comes over and apologizes for the wait and offers us a comp beverage. Very nice of them to do that, great start so far. Another minute later we were escorted to our table thruough a very impressive dinning room. Very posh and classy- not over done like burns and not to faux class like flemmings. I am a soup man so for the appt. I opted for the Lobster bisque at $8.95. (after comiing highly recom. from waiter.) Normally when I go out I get the french onion- and I should of. This is one of the only let-downs of the evening. The Bisque was good and chunky; however it was lacking some of the flavor I am used too. To much cream flavor, I think was missing some of the Brandy and pepper undertones. But it should be noted that my wife loved the bisque. The other let down was the Lyonasise potatoes @ $7.50 (enough to share). These are just thinnly sliced potatoe wedges fried with onions. Tasted too much fry grease that reminded me of all the fairs and carnivals I have ever been too. Next time ! will opt for the signature scalloped potatoes. The steak ($34.95 for 12 ounce filet, actually a really good price for 12 ounce at a upper notch chop house!) came out sizziling hot on a plate drowned with butter. Awesome, Amazing. So tender, and cooked to perfection. Dessert was the chocolate sin cake, (@ $9.-) a cool flourless slice of fudge like cake that had a hint of expresso flavor.... I will definatly be going back!!

I heard a Gallagher's is going to open in Channelside Drive, Tampa, Florida. See http://www.gallaghersnysteakhouse.com/franchisegallaghers.asp and a press release at http://www.sptimes.com/2006/09/15/Citytimes/Claim_a_steak_at_Gall.shtml

Once again I have to give props to Sweet Bay Supermarkets. NY strips 5.99 a pound! This week Porterhouse for 6.99! Filets are not on sale and are taggin in at a whopping 18.99 a pound! I aslo just finished off the last of my Omaha that I received for Xmas. Here is a shot of the Omaha filet with the omaha twiced baked and a shots of the strips with a homemade twice baked... Strips turned out GREAT about 1.25" grilled to perfection... Omaha welll... it was OK- good, but nothin can compare to a fresh cut.

This seems like a legit review, not one of those paid advertisments you see in airline magazines etc... Anyway here are the top 10 according to playboy (sorry I didnt feel like typing out the whole article, but if anyone wants to read what they wrote on one of these fine eateries Let me know):

4. Grill 23- Boston
5. El Raigon- San Francisco

8. Red- Cleveland
9. Crescent City Steaks- New Orleans
10. Keefer's- Chicago.

Berns is an excellent atmosphere, but not a #1 steakhouse in my opinion. Top 10 or 20 maybe. They have to be factoring in ambience as well as the food. It's good, but not the best.
As someone who has done extensive travel around the country over the past 9 years.. the best steak I've had is ... the ONE I MAKE AT HOME!
Seriously.. Ruth's Chris is a joke, Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill in Vegas was too pricey for the quality - El Gaucho in Seattle (http://www.elgaucho.com/elgaucho/) was the best so far, but still not as good as what we grill at home..
Why? Because we start with the best steak ever from a local butcher up here:

My wife and I went to Charley's in Tampa this past Saturday night. This was wayyyy better then I expected. I was expecting more of a old school early 60's vegas decor- Nope.Yes some areas are a little dated, but man I was impressed- Total view of the grills for all in the bar area to see and droul over the huge 50 ounce porterhouses or equally impressive lobster tails. Anyone from this grilling forum would atleast appreciate the grill- huge, wood burning, custom made piece of work that they were throwing large logs of Oak and some sort of Citrus into....
Any of us on this site who are into smoking have definately thrown some smoke onto our steaks.... And Charley's does the same... Only- their steak is dry aged in house, cut in house daily, and seared on that grill with some seriously tendor bites of quality beef with citus flavor!
Is Charleys better in my opinion then any other top notch steak house? (they are rated top 10 in the US)...- No, I dont think so. Just differnerent, unique, and worth a visit.
