The wife and I have started drinking more wine with our meals lately. I have never been a fan of red wine, so I have had white. However I'm getting a little more adventurous and would like to expand my tastes!

Does anyone have any recommendations for what wine goes best with particular foods cooked on the grill?

I am not a big wine drinker, but my wife loves Merlot. If I am not mistaken it has a relatively strong oak flavor. I am thinking it would go good with grilled red meats.

My grandmother always said drink the wine the same color of the meat you are cooking. Since going on th south beach diet I have started to drink more red wines. I like merlot, pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon. My new favorite is Beringer Founders' Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. It is excellent with steak.

Thanks Deuce.
I'll have to try that one out.

Red wines are a little more robust then white, thus the need to require a taste for them. But you will and then wonder how you ever drank white,

Start w/ a Pinot Noir (mild red)
then work up to a Merlot ater that a Cabernet (very robust) as you get aquired to the taste try a Zinfandel ( not white but a red) this is a little spicy. great for mexican cuisine.

Dont let price be your guide. some of my favs are only $8 - $11. if you have a Costco or Sams in your area, they have a great selection at great prices.

Hope this helps!

Recently, I have been buying Shiraz. I like it. Yellowtail brand is consistantly good and not very expensive. In fact the entire Yellowtail line is good.

I also like Chilean wines... particularly the Merlots.

The only important thing about wine is to drink what tastes good to you without regard to price. There are a few wine basics, but after that go with what you like.

As TomP says, there are plenty of great wines to be found between $8 and $11.

I'd like to invite you all over to my good friends new forum, Wine Talk - http://www.winetalk.com

It's a new forum, however they are just as passionate about wine as I am of grilling (Perhaps even more!)! I'm starting to learn a lot from them!
