I was wondering how your grilling changes as fall and winter approach.
Does the amount of grilling increase/decrease?
I am fairly new to this forum and charcoal grilling, and am trying to plan out what I want to grill as fall approaches.
Thanks,

I think I might grill more in the fall than I do in the middle of summer, but even when I was growing up in VA my parents cooked on the grill right through the winter. I even remember the grill being pulled up to the sliding glass door so you could almost just reach the grill from inside the house. I think the primary factor in how much I grill anymore is scheduling and what I am cooking. Like burgers, steak, etc. have to be grilled regardless of the weather. I only pan fry a burger or god forbid use the George Forman in extremely desperate times. Last night I had some chicken breast to cook, in my mind I had two option grill them or stir fry, there is no other way to cook chicken breasts in my world. :) I ended up making a Thai style stir fry that was pretty good.
On the big green egg site there are some great pics of egg surrounded by snow with smoke coming out the top.

I grill pretty much constantly through out the year. I just love it. The heat from the grill during the winter is enough to keep you next to it. I'm doing a rotisserie pork loin today, monitoring temps with my taylor remote while watching football :)

After thinking of it more. I really want to try my hand at pork tenderloins and some baked items. I just got my folks old baking stone to see if I can use it with my kettle grill. After I clean it up (I am hoping baking soda will work) I want to try some pizzas or bread on the the grill. I found this thread (http://www.sharky.com/forum/showthread.php?t=112) were you have already discussed it some. Pizza and Pork seem more fall/winterish to me than the hamburgers and hot dogs. I to hope to keep gilling during the fall and winter.
My wife said growing up that her dad always grilled his best at the end of the summer. I hope to do enough grilling to not have the drop in skills during the spring/early summer.

I tend to grill throughout the entire year. There are certain things that just do not taste right unless they are grilled. I think that I do grill more in the fall though because there's not the extreme hot/cold weather.

At my place, the grilling kinda slows down after our late fall "clean out the freezers" bash (dates, times & menus will vary along with your milage), but the smoking don't ever slow down as long as we can afford a cheap beef or pork roast. Of course, when stuff goes on sale, then we buy too much (huh?), starting the "clean out the freezers" stockpile for later (we usually have 2 or 3 of these a year).

As an apartment dweller I don't have the wonderful advantage of a deep freezer or even a sufficient sized Frig/Freezer.
Mike I see you have a nice little ad site. I bet it helps support your grilling addictions. I'm proud that you have in your sig instead of those marketers who act like independent customers who are like "I always go to www... for my supplies they seem to have the best deals".
Though one would think Weber might be giving a little kickbacks for all the good word of mouth about them here.
I see no foul.

I did a turkey on my Kettle last Thanksgiving, I had to set up a wind blocker, but man it was good

I definitely think that it'd be a lot more difficult living in an apartment and being a griller. I don't think I could survive that LOL
Jack, I bet that was the best Thanksgiving turkey ever. Are you planning to do that again this year?
Dave, I like your idea and may have to try that soon. Seems I'm getting too much stuff in my freezer LOL
Mark, I'm glad you enjoyed my site. I hate those pushy types LOL The site does help support my grilling addiction though LOL

I will definitely be grilling another turkey this year, its pretty easy, if you decide to do it, just make sure to get a bird that hasnt been pre-brined so you can do it yourself. Then just grill it indirect until she is done.
And make sure to get a bird without the little plastic thermometer in it, cuz melted plastic probably doesnt taste so good.

I have just done my first Coke-Butt (I'm a temperate so I didn't have the proper supplies to make one correctly plus I know you guys would hate it if I wasted the first half of the can before putting it in the bird). It took a little over an hour. I made it to finish off the coals after making some beef dogs and gilled meat for enchiladas using the grilled spaghetti method (http://www.sharky.com/forum/showthread.php?t=809) . We will probably have it tonight I hope it is done as all the coke did not boil off.
Something about watching those coals at sunset as the evening began to cool off was very relaxing. I think I might grill as much as I did this summer as fall is apron us.

Oh the grilled enchilada meat was excellent, but the spice mix I mixed with the meat made it slightly dry. Next time I will have to mix some type of liquid with the patties to make up for the juices the spices will absorb.

Hey, Aaron-
If you get one (or more) of those wire-less thermometers (Maverick, etc.), then you can drink the Mr. Jack inside where it's warm, lol :D

I never thought of making enchilada meat on the grill. My family really enjoys Mexican food and I bet that grilling the meat would make it all the more enjoyable.

I could only dream of living in Florida. I think that I'd really enjoy it there, being that you're able to grill out almost 365 days a year. On the other hand, I don't think that my wife would appreciate the bugs there LOL

You get over the bugs with a screened in porch, or a "Bird Cage" as my Californian friends call it;-)

Wow!, half past October and 70* in Iowa! Yesterday I fired up the smoker:
1 pork butt
40 ABTs
1 Italian sausage fatty
1 pork sausage fatty
1 bratwurst fatty
If this is what we're gonna have for an Iowa winter this year, bring it on! :D

I used to grill/smoke more in the cooler months, but since I got my Stumps smoker I don't mind so much cooking in the summertime.
I'll never retire my WSM's though. Best all around cooker in my mind. Got some chicken thighs going on one right now. Soon to be followed by an all-night brisket. :mouthwate
