I recently purchased a Sonoma Grill from Costco. After following the directions and rechecking the grill would not go beyond 300 degrees. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

One thing I would check is your connection to the LP tank. One of the things that happens to me once in awhile when I put a new tank on or do not use for any extended period is kind of an air or vapor lock. Light the grill then shut down. Disconnect the hose from the tank, then reconnect. It is as simple as that. When you get the air lock, it somehow retards the flow of gas to the burners. When you disconnect and reconnect, it somehow gets rid of the problem. Hope this helps.

LP Tanks have a safety cutoff if the pressure drops wrong. What you want to do is open the tank valve first, and don't open it real fast. Just ease it open. The burner valves should be closed when you do this. Then open the burner valves and light the grill. You don't want to open the burner valves first, and you don't want to crank open the tank valve too fast.
When you turn off the grill, turn off the burner valves first, then clost the tank valve.
If you do things in the wrong order, the safety valve will get too big a drop in pressure and the cutoff valve will restrict the propane flow.

You would think that after all this time (what,4 or 5 years?) that the manufacturers would maybe start to put this info in their instruction manuals. As far as I know, not one of them does that yet, leaving it up to us, the public, to inform ourselves! Talk about dumb on their part, or maybe they just don't care?
