Good Day All
I was wondering if any of you had any experience with Barbeques Galore's Capt'n Cook or Turbo classic grills? I'm on the verge of purchasing either one of those models or a Weber Genesis C ( I wouldnt mind a side burner). Here's what I like about the grills.
like the weber because: 1. Side burner, if I'm going to spend $500 I should have a side B. 2. Quality, parts available, strong backing, great warranty! 3. It appears you can cook just about anything on it so its more or less a cooking device instead of a grill. 4. High customer approval for YEARS says a lot. 5. Its slightly cheaper than BBQ with a side burner.
I like the Turbo for #s 2 and 4 above. In addition it has the ceramic briquettes that act as a flare-up tamer and most of all radiates heat( i really like that). I ASSUME it heats quicker and gets hotter than the weber. Its cooking area is larger than the weber. Not that I need it but would be nice to have.
If anyone has any comments about these grills, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hey Mellman
I have the genesis b model .Which is your c without a side burner and i wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Had a charbroil stainless(JUNK) . My weber heats quickly and is easy to clean. My b will hit the mid 700's up to 800 depending on temp. The weber burners are extremely fuel effecient also. I'm not familiar with the bbq galore stuff, but if its stainless i would be worried about rust at that price level. I may be wrong on this if so someone will correct me.Customer service is second to none with weber. I also haave a weber smokey mountain and had trouble with the grates with a b-day cook coming up on the weekend. They made that birthday party happen and didn't fail me or the family. Unless they start turning out junk someday i will never own anything else. Yes I'm a FANATIC.
Good luck with your choice

Thanks Swampsmoker!!
Monday I was totally exhausted from information overload and changing my mind on which grill for the last year, that I decided to just get the Weber Silv B from HomeDepot. :D I put it together myself, but because of work I havent had a chance to use it yet. Believe it or not I'm contemplating taking it back and getting the Silver C ... Question, my grates are the home depot porcelain enameled cast iron, do I need to oil them first and then heat them on the grill for a while? Thanks again

I have a 9 year old Weber Genesis and a 6 month old BBQG Grand Turbo. The turbo does not heat up faster than the Genesis. The turbo does get hotter, which is a plus for thin steaks you want to sear fast, but other than that, I find I keep using my old Genesis more than the new Turbo. Maybe it's the comfort and familiarity, maybe it's just the size. The Grand Turbo is pretty big and it seems like a waste to fire it up if I'm not cooking for a crowd. Personally, I think the Weber is better built, although there are things about the Turbo I like.

You don't need to do anything special with the PCI grates. It's raw cast iron you need to season and maintain carefully, but the porcelain coating eliminates those issues.
However, with PCI, use a brass or nylon brush; not steel. Steel bristles will tear right through the porcelain coating. Also, I have heard the porcelain is softer when hot, harder when cool, so I avoid brushing my grates when they are hot. I'll do a burn-off, but let the grates cool before brushing.
Note that PCI will probably last around 5 - 8 years and then have to be replaced.

oooOOOOHHHH MAAAAANNNN!!!!!!!! :D
I haven't grilled in several years. Last night I fired up the grill for the first time......Genesis Silver B baby and the B stands for BEAST!!!
I was a little concerned with some talk that 36K btu was a little low for this size grill. For this grill I will say no way. At 10 minutes with all burners on high, the temp guage registered 580 degrees!!! At 20 minutes it was off the chart. I got a little nervous at this point because nothing I read said it would go this high. Went to turn down the heat and the burner controls were extremely hot, now I'm very worried. I set the controls down to medium and cracked the hood open for a few seconds. The temp settled in at 550 then I put my T-bones on the grill.
Hearing that meat SIZZLE was sweet, SWEET music to the ears. :D I could hear the drippin's hitting the flavorizing bars and vaporizing This thing got so hot that my meat was supposed to be medium but it came out well done ( yes I over cooked it) . I'm not upset though, I will adjust next time ( that would be today). I've read that you wont get good grill marks on this grill because of the closed hood.... Either I'm extreeeeemly good, and we know better, or those people were very very wrong. They were wrong! I got grill marks on both sides. And on the second side I played around, turned the meat 90 degrees and got the cross marks!!!! :D
After I was done I called Weber and explained what happened with the heat and control knobs. The service rep told me that indeed the grill will be very hot but eventually it will settle in after the inside "gets a little dirty" Right now I feel that is incentive for me to clean it more often.
Oh man!! Excuse my excitement, but I haven't grilled in several years. My previous grill was an old charbroil that looked like it had one long burner but in fact it was 2 burners.... yeah very old. I am looking forward to what others have experienced,.. Years of GREAT grilling on my new WEBER!!! :D

Congrats Mellman
Now you know why weber owners are so passionate :p . We cook these little 8oz ribeyes and they take 2min a side at 525 and they have just a touch of pink in them.
Hers a little something for you to try and its simple.
1) Slice vidalia onion 1/4 in brush with oil and kohser salt// grill 8-10min at 350
2) peel asparagus and do the same as above
3)marinade portabella mushrooms about 2hrs in favorite marinade grill gill side down for 5min at 350 turn over and put bluecheese or some other easy melting cheese in it for another 5 min.
this all finishes in about the same time . I usually cook this as my meat is resting. Gives you a good reason to let them steaks rest.
This is a simple little meal we cook all the time. super easy and delicious.
