View Full Version : Which Higher End Grill?

I've browsed this site a bit in the past but this is my first post. We are going to get started on building an outdoor kitchen and need a grill and sideburner to go in it. I want to spend around $3000 total on both of the units (not including the island or other accessories) and want at least a 36" wide grill with three burners (one of them a searing zone would be nice but I think it will drive the cost up too much). I also want ALL 304 stainless and overall good construction. So far all of my research keeps bringing me back to DCS, either the 36" and seperate sideburners or the 48" with built-in sideburners. I have also looked at Alfresco and Viking as well as the Capital Performance series but they start to get a little out of my price range. I've checked our Crown Verity a little but they just look kind of simplistic and for some reason just don't "do it" for me. Is there any reason for me to expand my search beyond DCS as they seem to be a good value in a high-end grill? Anyone have any other suggestions for a good grill and burners in that price range? Also, anyone want to weigh in on seperate versus attached sideburners? We are probably going to be making the purchase within a few weeks so hopefully I can get some good feedback by then. Thanks.

I bought a Grand Turbo from Barbeques Galore. It's a good grill, but maybe isn't as 'high end' as you are looking for. DCS is good; my wife's cousing has one and he likes it very much. Don't forget to look at Firemagic and Lynx. Both are well-reputed brands.

I have a 42" Maytag (dynasty) I got at BBQ Galore and I love it. not quite as expensive as DCS but a great grill. They also make a great double side burner. Hope that helps, feel free with any questions

Thanks for the replies. I was sold on a DCS until I saw Capital Grills. I ended up ordering a 52" Capital with integrated side-burners. I had initially ruled Capital out because of their cost but got a great price on it and only had to pay a very small amount more than for a DCS. Now I can't wait to get me island done and get grilling.

I see most of you folks here are Weber guys, and I can't blame you. I've owned two and both were fantastic. However, I recently bought a VCS-5016 from Vermont Castings. My plan is to use it on the stand until we buy our new house, then remove it from the stand an make it into a build-in. Anyway, getting back to the grill. I love it so far. I had it about a month now and have grilled everything from burgers and brats to rotisserie chicken. The only thing I've not done on it yet is a brisket, but that's coming soon. Heats up fast, maintains a very even heat, cleans up nice. It's large with 5 burners, so the indirect cooking is easy, has a infra-red (my first) for the rotissierie that worked pretty well. The side burner is my only real complaint, it's just to hot. I can't simmer without moving the pan almost completely off the burner.
Anyway, saw that you were considering a VCS and wanted to put my .02 in. Opps, mis-read yer post. DCS/VCS not quite the same :)

Aside from the side burner, you can buy the Kenmore Elite with the new SS burners, heavy duty cooking grates (SS), a Sear Zone burner (replaces the old side burner) and has 6 separate main burner units along with a rotisserie unit for about $1500 at Sears. You can spend another $1200 and get the granite/SS side units and be in under $3k for an all stainless unit. Kenmore also makes a TON of accessories from Custom Smoker Boxes to Custom Covers and cooking devices such as roasting pans and griddles. I have two of their high end units and they work FANTASTIC. Check'em out before you buy.

Btw, Sears is having their end of season sale. I saw some of the Elite $1500 + grills for 700-800 bucks. Never cooked on em, but they look nice.
