I've been sorely needing a few good knives for quite some time.

I was going to order some Global knives, but they're rather pricey, so I figured I'd get just one or two at a time. Then I asked some people and did some research and ordered 6 Forschners (Victorinox - the Swiss Army Knife people) for about half the price of 3 Globals.

Then I got buyers remorse and decided I'd send them back when they arrived and get the Globals anyway.

Well, they came in today and I'm not sending these knives anywhere. They are great! What a balance and feel in your hand. I got the fibrox handles for easy care, but they come in rosewood too.

So if you're looking for a good knife or a set of knives at a good price, don't overlook Forschner. I got mine at www.cutleryandmore.com. Good prices, free shipping, quick shipping, and a free Swiss Army Knive :)

Im also looking for a new set of knives, how do these compare to Wusthof and Henkel, I hear they are made of a softer metal and need to be honed more often, but are they harder than say Chicago cutlery. Any info would be great

not sure about how soft the metal is, but when I was using them constantly on a daily basis I sharpened them about once a week or so........but that is using them 8 hours a day 40 hours a week. as for honing....that was done as needed...how often. I honestly couldn't tell you.

I haven't had mine long enough to give you a long-term answer, but right now I wouldn't trade 'em for nothin'. I've been advised to use a diamond steel for optimum performance. I have a 3-stage Chef's Choice electric sharpener with a stropping wheel. I don't know if I'll be brave enough to put the Forschner in the Chef's Choice though.
