anyone tried one of the Charbroil smokers...they have the Silver at Home Depot and the Quick Set at Walmart. Im talking about the long barrel smokers with the wood pit on the end...a true smoker.
Just wondering if anyone used one of these and how they have been.
Thanks,
David

HI David,
Welcome to the board! I do not have one, but I believe one of the regular posters does. He seems pretty happy with it.
Where are you located in Tampa?
How did you hear about us?

I have looked at the silver smoker you talk about and wasn't really inpressed with it, but that is just me. I own a char-griller so I guess I am a bit partial to it. I LOVE it myself. a bit larger capacity and I think it's easier to work with. but like anything your milealge may vary and as a friend said. 'I positively guarantee that your results will be different' ;)

Lowes carries them I know. there are a few other places, but I am not sure which ones in your area. If you go to the char-griller site you can take a look at them. I have the super smoker pro. the only real difference between that and the other is the side fire box.

are you able to use the main area for just plain ole grillin a steak too? I heard that there were problems with these small offets smokers...how is your success?

It probably doesn't hold the heat as well, but I see no problem in throwing a few steaks on.. You just might need a bit more charcoal it get it up to the right temp.

the Char-griller allows you to use it both as a regular grill as well as an offset smoker.

It's a mediocre cheap offset. They work OK, but there are modifications you need to make to get better heat control, especially for long cooks.
I'm biased towards the WSM's. I think they are far better smokers than the Silver. I may be mistaken about the model, but I think CharBroil cheapened the unit when they bought New Braunfels, and now they warn you not to let charcoal sit against the metal in the firebox because it can burn through.
