Took my nearly 5 year old Charbroil out to the curb last night and was heading back onto the porch to grab a high life for a goodbye toast. Just as I was coming back out, an old chevy pickup stopped, backed up and two guys jumped out and loaded up the Charbroil. So I didn't send it to it's death, but onto it's next home to flare up spectacularly and burn good food!
I found this forum while researching my next grill - looks like a great place! I'm a Weber guy at heart, always grilled with charcoal in an old black kettle for years. I've been using a Performer for several years now and also use a Smoky Mountain Smoker. The Charbroil was a wedding present and was just used for quick grill jobs and the side burner was used for boiling wort for home brew. Tonight I pick up my new Genesis Silver C with Cast Iron upgrade, who knows maybe I'll be converted to Gas a little more with a quality grill!

Welcome LAX!
I'm a Weber guy myself... got the WSM, a Platinum, a Standard Kettle, and the Baby-Q. Geez, I guess I'm addicted... LOL!
Enjoy your new gasser!

LAX,
To me, there's no other choice. I spent months looking for a grill; going back and forth from different brands and Weber, and I always came back.
Congrats on your new Genesis!!!

ETA: I highly recommend the cast iron griddle. Look for my post in the Reviews section.

Your new Weber should last alot longer than 5 years! I, too am a Weber fan with a WSM, 22" Platinum and a Genesis 2000 that's still going strong after 13 years now with only new grates and flavorizer bars.
Whatcha grillin' tonight?? :D

Welcome to the board LAX! I look forward to seeing you around. I like you style and can't wait for future contributions.
Congrats on the new Grill! I'm a gas guy that enjoys Charcoal on the weekends. The Mix can't be beat!

Thanks for the welcome guys! Look forward to learning from all of you about how to use this big gas thing!
Picked it up this afternoon and got it together. Wow, this is definitely more grill than the old gasser. My wife wanted steaks so we tried it out right away. I marinated a couple tenderloin fillets in teriyaki and made up some herb sweet potatoes in foil and fired the sucker up! I'm thinking that I'm going to love this grill! Everything turned out great!

You mind posting the recipe to those Herbed Sweet potatos in our Recipe section?

Heh, not much of a "recipe" for this one...
Slice up some sweet potatoes and shake with Lipton savory herb with garlic soup mix in a ziplock bag!
Usually a little more creative with my grilling, but it was fast and I needed to try out that grill. When I get something new, especially if it has to do with cooking/grilling, I'm kind of like a cat who is laying on the floor and just jumps up and runs into another room - "I need to be in there, YESTERDAY!" Had to fire it up, I'm lucky I didn't do that before it was completely assembled!
Anyways I can post that "recipe" in the Recipe section if you really want!

Congrats on the new grill. You won't miss the CharBroil.
I have had a Genesis for 8 years, and there's no noticeable deterioration on it. I have no idea how long it will last, but I'm sure I'll replace it with a bigger, fancier grill long before it wears out.
I have a WSM, too. They are excellent backyard smokers. I also have a Smokin Tex. The only thing I need now is a charcoal grill to complete the armory.
