I'm still torn between a stainless steel grate and the porcelainized cast iron grate (found on Home Depot's Webers). What are the pros and cons of each? Which is the easiest to clean/maintain? Which cooks/sears better?

I have cooked with both. It really doesn't matter to me. The stainless grates do a wonderful job of leaving the black lines on my steaks. I have a Kenmore Elite. Maybe the cast iron is more efficient, but I can't tell. I am converted to SS because of the ease of cleaning and I can't tell a difference between the performance.

If you can get SOLID stainless steel grates, I'd go with them, otherwise give me the PCI grates. Biggest reason is for heat retention.

Only problem is that solid ss is really expensive these days.
