Anyone cook with a Char-Broil gas grill?

I'm in the market for a new gas grill, and I have a $100 gift certificate to Lowe's, and it seems they carry mostly Char-Broil. I'd like a Weber gasser, but that is going out of my price range, at least the ones in stock at Lowes.

I usually use my gas grill for quick things, like chicken breasts, brats, and the occasional steak. I have a Weber charcoal grill and a Brinkmann smoker for the good stuff!

Has anyone had any bad experiences with a Char-Broil?

St. Louis,

I was at Lowe's the other day looking at their grills and when speaking with the dept. manager, he was telling me the grills are not 304 Grade Stainless and WILL rust....what grade of stainless they are....I do not know. Hope this helps.

I've had my Char-broil for 12 years before the cart finally rusted clear thru. I got it as a house warming gift from my parents. They probably spent about $130 on it at the time. If you get one, plan on replacing the internals every other year. It was an investment of $60 to $100 each time. Do the math. In that time I spent enough to get myself a Weber Genesis.

The "inerts" are really not the problem as the burners are now brass. The SS they use is the part that will be a problem depending on where you live.

I read on the Uniflame FAQ that for their grade of SS, discoloration is normal. I'm assuming that means the SS they use on the exterior. As far as the internal "SS" I wouldn't think it would last more than a season without showing signs of rust.

Hey snapshot

I own a commercial stainless model .I beleive its 42,000 with a 10,000 side burner. There warranties listed in my manual are as follows/ brass burners -lifetime/ stainless and diecast 99years/ electric ignition 10years/ remaining parts 2years.My grill lives on a covered deck so its not subjected to the worst weather but when i do wash it I don't dry it with anything and no rust appears.I've had to deal with charbroil on a h20 smoker and they were a joy to deal with. Thats why I now own one of there gassers.Any other questions please feel free to ask I check the board at least once a day.

Good luck opn your decision
