View Full Version : weber silver or gold??
OK, I have been convinced to go with the Weber Genesis series (unless the guy at Lowe's convinces me that the Jenn Air really is made by VC and that Lowe's will support it forever) since I plan to keep it for a decade or two.
I know I want the bigger cooking area and the side burner, but is it worth the extra money to get the Gold (stainless grids and flavorizer bars) instead of the Silver with the porcelainized?
Thanks again.

BW,
That is a good point....here is my two cents: Eventually the porcelain grates will deteriorate.....they seem to hold heat better than the SS ones. I have purchased (for others) (5) Genesis Gold C's and cooked on them extensively. My best friend has a Genesis 3000 (equivalent to the Silver C) and has had it for going on 8 years. Recently replaced the porcelain grates with SS. If the SS look is not important, I cannot see any reason to spend the extra cash. I really like the Gold Series.........Platinum Series is a joke. They added nothing, don't look as nice as the Gold (personal opinion) and jacked the price up......bad move. They could have at least added a smoker box or back burner......thoughts?
Our local Lowe's has the '04 Jenn-Aire 60k BTU unit on clearance for $877.00
I would buy this unit if I was purchasing today.
FYI:
I went with the Weber all right. Got a 2005 genesis silver b with the premium (stainless) grates and flavorizors and a tank for $529.
all I have to do is put it together and get this dang sacramento rain to stop.
thanks again for all the advice.
