I've been getting more into poker over the last few months. I am addicted to watching the world poker tour on ESPN.

Anyone else?

Do you have any tips for a novice like me?

I read this somewhere and thought it was good advice:

No one likes to give their money away to a show-off. Basically, give them some sugar if you are going to punish them.

If you catch a lucky card that gives you the best hand, simply say, "Yup, I got lucky. You had me the whole way. I can't believe how I lucky I got." All the while thinking to yourself, "Yeah! That was a huge pot! I rule!"

Serge,

I do not play for any serious money. $1-20 buy ins are my limit.
I love to gamble, but one of my strong points is knowing when enough is enough. I know I am not good enough to beat the system!

I play poker every now and then...

In fact we'll be playing a nice game tomorrow :)

I've never actually won so I'm not a very good player!

Ryan, You have the patience of a 2 month old!

I wonder if that's why they call it "Texas Hold 'em"

Have patience and Hold em, and you will win!

lol

haha! I only learned myself! And I am only winning from those who have played even less than I have!

I play for free on yahoo. It's fun and I don't lose anything. If we set a time and a nite we could all go to the same room and play. Kind of a sharky's online poker night. Of course the time differences would have to be taken into consideration.

Where's your post?
That's right, you got impatient again! haha!

I don't know how I won, but I don't think my dad was too happy about it!

To win by 1 card is crazy. He had Jack- 9 and I had Jack-10 on crap hands.
It's nuts to win on high card.

I was playing with the neighbors occasionally over the summer. I have definately been watching World Series of Poker....too much.

Lately i have been playing online a bit at Party Poker. Only with play money though. Anybody want to get a practice game (play money) going there sometime?

I love it! I never played until just recently.

I started with Texas Hold 'em, but now I'm venturing into 7-card stud and Omaha. Playing on-line with fake money is a good way to learn.

Haven't played any huge games, though. Usually $5 buy-ins, the max is $20.
