Do you have a favorite Beer, or do you like variety?

I have been a Heinekin fan for quite some time. However I have recently started branching out trying many different microbrews! It's amazing the flavor difference you get when tasting the different beers.

Is it dark/light?

Where do you find it?

It's a light (not lite) beer... World of Beers on Gulf to Bay has it. Publix has it sometimes. Not a big seller because its moderately pricey... $8-9 a 6 pk.

Foreign beer - this is my choice.

Domestic beer - has to be a Sleeman product, or a local microbrew.
I like this one the best.

Sleeman Honey Brown Lager

Brewed in the tradition of cottage breweries at the turn of the century. It is a refreshingly smooth, full-bodied lager.

5.2% alcohol by volume.
Tasting Notes: A refreshingly smooth, full-bodied lager, with a subtle touch of all natural honey which creates a slightly sweet finish.

No offence guys, but you really have the crappy beer making down to a T.

Why this slop is considered a "beer" is beyond me. It has NO taste!

Our "Labatt Lite" is no better....

hahaha! Busch Beer is a staple in every trailer park in Florida!
My own family guzzles it by the case!

With that said, Busch is still better than Schaffers!

COLD BEER is my favorite!!!! At this particular time Samuel Smiths Winter Welcome is out and I do enjoy that one. I used to do all the microbrews but now switch between all of the lites and every now and then splurge on some Sam Adams or Molson Canadien.

Any Mexican beer, but my absolute favorite is Murphy's Irish Amber. Excellent!!!

I like Sapporo, too. I used to be a member of the Bennegan's 100 Beer Club thingy. Got my name on a plaque inside the bar for drinking 100 different beers that they serve.

Not all at one time of course. we could sit there as long as we wanted and drink as many as we wanted, but the limit per day to count towards 100 was three.

Needless to say, I've tasted a crapload of good and bad beer.

My favorite is Budweiser's Busch, I know its one of there lower end beers but i prefer it over regular bud even but i mostly drink regular bud cause my parents drink that. My mom talked me into buying me and her some micholob light last weekend and man was that ever nasty it has a weird taste to it. Its weird cause ive had it before and it never tasted like that but this batch did, Maybe it was old or something.

You mean America's oldest brewery...

Weihenstephaner Brewery in Bavaria was around nearly 800 years before yuenglings... 1040!

Me I drink Miller High Life for an everyday beer, but my homebrews are my favorite and my favorite all time beer is

Viking Whole Stein: (http://www.vikingbrewing.com/products.htm) Breakfast in a bottle, a coffee, oatmeal, milk porter. Yesiree, all the best parts of breakfast, right in your glass.

Sleeman's is now being brewed here in La Crosse, WI too! The old Heileman's brewery is now City Brewery and they do a lot of contract brewing, Sleeman's being one of their lines. I like the honey brown too.

I've been drinkin a lot of Shiner Bock lately. It's a Texas beer recently 'imported' here to Colorado. Btw, for all you Coors guys, Coors is know around here as queer beer, because they allow same sex benefits. Most of my Texas buddies spit it out when I told em that. :)

Wow, feels like I am back in the midwest - used to drink all of those beers when I lived there. I live in the Northwest now and most of the microbrew they make here is pretty good. Our local brewery Fullsail makes some mighty fine brews and Widmere has some tasty selections as well. As far as what I like to drink, it depends on what mood I'm. When I'm just thirsty and need something to cool me down a simple Coors Light or Corona will do the trick. If I'm going out to dinner or having or at a party a local microbrew is the call. If I really want to sit down and slowly drink a beer enjoying the taste and texture nothing beats a Guiness (in a glass of course). Every now and then when I want something different I pop open a Chimay (brewed by Belgium monks). And beyond that I'm always into trying something new - I've never met a beer I didn't like. Although there are some that I like more than others. The only thing I like more than beer is a nice bottle of wine and living in the Pac NW and north of California there are plenty of those around here. Beer with burgers, wine with steak is my philosophy.

Guess that I'm justa old-fashoned redneck at heart. Used to drink full octane Bud by the case, then switched to Busch Light 'cause of the calories ( I need to lose about 40 or 50 lbs.). I ain't about to quit drinkin' & Busch Light tastes more like Bud than Bud Light does, at least to me. Besides, after the second twelve-pack, who amongst us can really tell the dif? :D

I have to agree. We used to go to Cancun every year and for some reason they do just taste better there.

I've heard that Carona tastes better in Mexico too. Unfortunately I've never been there to find out. The only reason I can think of for this is because Carona was made there, I think, so it's fresher.

Dave C.
12-02-2006, 04:46 AM
Naw,Mike, I don't think its just the fresher part. About 35 years ago, I stayed in Quebec 3 or 4 months, drinking my fill of Molson 50 & Labat Blue. When I came back to the States I could really tell the difference in taste from the Canuck beer. I think that maybe they all (the breweries) have a separate blend for export. ;)

I love beer and am a regular at the Capitol Ale House in downtown Richmond, VA. Their beer menu is over 30 pages and they generally run around a hundred taps and keep 2 cask beers on draught for hard core beer enthusiasts (a stage I passed about 10 years ago). When it comes to stocking beer at home, Sam Adams is the only one you'll always find here. If I can find Dominion Brewery's (Ashland, VA) porter or stout I'll buy a case but it won't last long.

Debating whether Dos XX or Tecate is a better Mexican beer is about like debating the use of liquid smoke in bbq. They're both mediocre examples of a pilsner but if you like them, by all means enjoy them. I drink them both on occasion and an MGD in a pinch. But a good American beer to me means avoiding Miller, Bud, and all the major brands and sticking to the microbreweries to find the ones that are not afraid of using enough malt to create a full bodied beer and can add hops to make the flavor interesting, not just bitter. Exploring beers is akin to tasting bbq - you can argue North Carolina style vs Texas vs Kansas City all you want. In my opinion, done right, they're all great eating and done poorly, they're all to be avoided.

Don in VA

ps A few former friends have accused me of being a beer snob. Can you imagine that?

As an everyday, what's in my fridge, hey come over for a beer, it's Miller Light Long Necks. No dought. However, when it's hey honey lets go out in the back yard sit and chill while the grill warmin' up and talk there's a few. I'll totally agree to the Sam Adams winter! yeah my #1 but its seasonal. I like a lot of the hefeweizens, :p NOT white ales though. For a let's get out the frozen mug and drink slow and enjoy it's the Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout. I could keep going, I like beer!

Well, So far I'm into keg number 2.... First was a 1/6 keg (imagine one of those canisters of soda kegs you see at a restaurant - about same size) of sam adams.... that lasted just over a month- broke about even on that one.. I currently have Sam Adams Octoberfest on draft now- Full size that you remember from parties or bars- currently 1.5 months in and going strong (just me drinking and the occasional wife drink) Still pretty heavy... They say domestics will only stay fresh for 2-3 months depending on born on date, and imports indefinately because they are pasturised (sp- im a quick typer)..... Anyway, long story short, even if you break even it is still pretty neat having a great beer on tap at ones beckon..

I've tried a lot of light beers, but the best for my $ is Sam Adams Light... it's the only one that to me tastes as good as, or even better than, regular beer.

I even like it's dark, rich color. So many light beers look like they've been watered down, or worse.

Just my 2 cents!
