Is there a rule of thumb for how long a piece of meat can stay frozen without going bad?

I have a few steaks in the freezer, still in the original supermarket wrapping. I usually buy meat only when I am ready to eat it, however I got a good deal a few weeks ago and went for it!

Hey Sharky,

I'm not sure how long you can go in the supermarket wrapping. If I'm gonna freeze something I usually re-wrap it or Food Saver it (I refer to that as Suck-Pak :) ) Speaking of which, did you get that Black and Decker model you were talking about?

I'm sure if it's just a few weeks you'll be ok...

Sharky, The meat ussually dosn't go bad when frozen but may pick up freezer burn or off odors from the freezer. The meat is still good, just may not taste that good. Like Stpete said, thats where the foodsaver comes in. I've had meat frozen for over a year w/ no off taste!

I still haven't bought the foodsaver. I need to go ahead and do that!
