what do you do daily, monthly, and yearly to maintain your grill???

I found myslef this year replacing:
the flame tamers
two auto ignitors (third was still fine)
and the thermometer.. b/c the other one was getting hard to read

I also bought new grates (cast iron with ceramic coat)
but I'm still using the old ones.. as they are fine.. just bought them to have backups...

after I grill.. I always use my brush to clean the grates.. but I leave the film of grease on there to prevent rust...

and of course I keep a cover on it when not in use...

any other tips or tricks????

I try to burn the gunk off my grill grates at least once a week (I cook 3-4 times a week). about 3 times a year I will actually get in and replace the flame tamer rocks and clean all the grease and gunk from the bottom of the gril.

I might get flamed for this (no pun intended) but out of all the grill cleaners that I've used I found that Simple Green concentrate works the best. Every 3-4 months I heat up the grill for a couple of minutes to warm up the build up and spray Simple Green on the inside of the grill and let it sit for about 5-10 min with the lid closed. Come back with a warm damp cloth or sponge and wipe off then wipe again with a clean damp sponge to get any remaining residue or solution out. Fire up the grill for about 10 minutes with lid closed to burn off any residue and that should do it, at least for me.

For the outside, I wipe the lid with a moist rag and apply a very light coat of peanut or vegetable oil to keep the appearance looking fresh like new. (Every few months)

For the grates, I use the brush hawg before and after every meal . After the meal cleanup I use a paper towel dipped in oil and apply the towel across the grates using tongs to keep from rusting. If you have a self cleaning oven then throw the grates in there. Works great!

I've never thought of spraying cleaner onto a HOT grill... It just doesn't seem safe.

lol.

but if it works.. hey. why not.

lol. I'm sorry for the confusion, what I meant was I fire up the grill just enough to warm the inside. Not hot enough to cook food but just warm. 100-200 degrees top. Then turn everything off and spray. I didn't mean for it to sound like spraying solution while the burner is going. :( That would not be a pretty sight. :p

i've used oven off/eazy off oven cleaner on my grill before.. works well.. too..

yeah.. I try to keep the outside looking fresh too.. I use 409 on the outside.. when the grill is cool.. I also keep my grill covered when not in use..
