Hey all, I just got a new Char-Broil grill. I had posted here a while back that I was looking at one. Well, my dad knew I was doing that, too. He decided that he would help me buy a grill by buying one for me. Gotta love the guy, he's my best friend, but I was about 2 hours from ordering a BGE. ( Waiting for the wife to get home ). Anyway, I really do like this grill. It's a charcoal grill with a firebox on the side, indirect heat rack, rotisserie, and twice the size of my old Weber (which I will have trouble throwing away). OK, my dad said he can get his hands on about 30 firebricks. Do you guys think this would help my new grill to hold heat if I were to line the walls with these bricks? I'm thinkin' this would help a lot when I'm smokin' a butt or brisket. Any thoughts??

The fire bricks sound like a good idea, but I am not exactly sure how you would use them. When smoking with an offset fire box, I am not sure that it would be practical to heat up the bricks if they are in the smoke chamber, but maybe some bricks in the firebox would help. If you want to do some something like pizza (http://www.sharky.com/forum/showthread.php?p=684#post684) then you would definatly want to use some firebricks under your pizza stone.

So, Harmening... what's your first smoke going to be?

I don't know about the firebricks so I can't help you there, but congrats on the new grill/smoker.

Just remember: Lo n' slo, and it's done when it's done. :D

Congrats! Sounds like a very nice dad!

I don't think the firebricks will help you much, unless they will be used only for grilling, not smoking. I imagine this thing can hold it's heat pretty well as is.

Sean B, that picture is really close to what I've got. Only mine has an extension on the side, rather than the front. It also has an ash can on the bottom. So far, I have smoked a pork butt, spareribs, beef brisket, and salmon. It really is working well. I actually used the firebricks while smoking, they seemed to work well for maintaining a consistent tempurature in the grill. Heck, it might have maintained the temp. anyway, but I'd like to think that they helped.

Hey guys i'm new. I'm 22 and just got a new grill. My grill looks almost the same too, I just got a "Super Pro" Professional Chargriller/Smoker. Have you guys ever heard of it? Just wondering if you guys have ever used it before.

HI Keystonegriller! Welcome to the board! I see you are located in Pinellas Park, How did you find out about sharky.com ?

I'm rather new to smoking (StPeteBBQ on this board convinced me!), I'm more of a grill guy. I haven't used your particular setup, however I did see a similar one being used at a recent BBQ competition I entered -- That could only say good things about this grill. The offset smoker box has it's benefits. I heard of some even using it as another grill surface when more room for direct grilling is needed!

I found out about sharky.com a few days after I bought my grill. I wanted to join a grilling forum and this is the best one I found. I plan on getting the smoker box probably next week, I'll probably use it for extra grilling surface too cause I tend to have a lot of people over at one time.
